Practicing Members

Requirements

New applicants to this category are:

  • Canadian Certified MLT moving from a regulated Province
  • Canadian Certified MLT moving from a non-regulated Province
  • New Graduate-Certified (successfully challenged Canadian certification exam)
  • Internationally educated MLT (IEMLT)-Certified (successfully challenged Canadian certification exam)

To renew your Practicing Members must :

  • work at least 1,200 Practice Hours as set out in Bylaws, within the five-year period immediately preceding the date of application for the year in which the license is sought;
  • complete 2.0 continuing education credits in accordance with the requirements of the Contining Professional Education Program, as approved by the Council from time to time, within the five-year period immediately preceding the date of application for the year in which the license is sought;
  • new graduates have 5 years to obtain the required Practice Hours and Continuing Education credits;
  • hold practicing membership with the Society or a regulatory body recognized by the Society while working in medical laboratory technology activities approved by the Society to contribute to eligibility for a license; and
  • complete the prescribed forms and submit them together with the annual licensing fee and other fees prescribed by Council

Eligibility

Practicing Members may :

  • vote at all Annual or Special Meetings and in Mail Ballots and shall be eligible to stand for and be elected to any office and be appointed to any Committee;
  • may practice as a Medical Laboratory Technologist;

Additional Information

Practicing Members shall :

  • shall receive the publications of the Society;
  • shall receive a copy of Society documents designated for distribution to practising members;
  • shall adhere to the Code of Professional Conduct as adopted by the Society;
  • shall adhere to Standards of Practice adopted by the Society.
